Welcome to the 2010-2011
Anchorage Jr. Aces season.
My name is Sam Aregood and I will be coaching the U-14
Tier II Bantam team.
I have been coaching in the Anchorage area for almost 15 years,
ranging from early development programs up through High School.
Additionally, I spent several years as a Coaching
Instructor for USA Hockey.
I also grew up in Anchorage
playing hockey and was fortunate to experience success on
competition teams at the national and international levels.
My goal for the 2010-2011
season is simple, develop and prepare every player on the team
both physically and mentally.
As both a player and coach, my belief is that physical
play alone cannot equal a successful season.
This year we will focus heavily on developing each player
with knowledge of the game and assist them to understand the
importance on each of their roles on and off the ice.
However, with that being said,
it is also important to continue to develop each player’s
physical abilities.
At this level of hockey, I feel it is vital to expose each
player to a high level of hockey.
This cannot be achieved by having a large ratio of
practices vs. games.
This year’s plan is to ensure each player is exposed to as many
games as possible.
Practices are positive and are an effective way to review and
teach. However, I
also feel that the best way for a player to learn the game, is
to PLAY the game.
The more ice time a player can gain during a game will assist
them with their comfort level, understanding of where to be and
how to read plays.
I look forward to the upcoming
season and hope to see all of you there!!!
If you have any questions or
comments regarding the 2010-2011 season, please do not hesitate
to call. My number
is listed on the Anchorage Jr. Aces website.
Sincerely,
Sam Aregood
