The
2009/2010 season is the first season the Jr. Aces has had a Squirts team.
Under head coach Mark “Ski” Skibinski and assistant coach Royle Prince the
Jr. Aces Squirts team looks to build a successful Tier II team. Coach Ski
has been playing/coaching hockey since he was 6 years old. He played
Division I hockey at the Air Force Academy from 1987 to 1991. He went on to
be the head coach at Robert Morris College
in Illinois.
Coach Ski has spent a large amount of time coaching mite clinics and last
season he assisted Coach Prince with the Bulldog Squirts B team. Assistant
Coach Royle Prince grew up playing comp hockey in Anchorage. After college Coach Prince started
and directed the University
of Nevada’s Club Hockey
Program and he was head coach and player. While directing the University’s
hockey program he initiated and directed the adult and youth hockey programs
for Northern Nevada for 6 years prior to returning to Alaska.
Together Coach Ski and Coach Prince make a
strong coaching team. These two coaches balance well the defense and offense
positions of each and every player. Their knowledge and skill combined with
teaching methods are developing the individual and team skills. Along with
Assistant Coach Mike Dunn’s expertise for stick and puck handling these 3
coaches are developing a team that is competitive at this level.
The Squirts team is made up of a group of
players from various areas across Anchorage and Kenai. This team spent 3 days
camping and playing hockey together to create a group of kids that have
bonded together as a team. As a team they can have a fun and exciting
season.
The Squirts may have a small team but it is full of
skill, speed and heart. Our team consists of 3 lines, 4 defensemen and one
goalie. On the red line is center Tyler Prince, wing Levi Hensley and Ethan
Brown. Tyler
is our captain this year and both Levi and Ethan make the long journey from
Kenai to be on our team. This line is full of speed and power. On the blue
line is center Trevor Prince and wing Hunter Borst and Jaden Hewes. This
line is well balanced with skill and strength. Our final line is made up of
two with a rotating position. On the green line are Nathan Vandenbos and
Noah Cooley. These two complement each other on skill and speed. Our
defensive team is made up of a group of kids that are skilled, quick on
their feet and the goalie’s best friends. On defense are Taylor Ceccarelli,
Avery Dunn, Alex Kessler and Trenton Klingbeil. Finally, the man in the net
is Alex Plett. He may be small but he is very agile.
With hard work and dedication, the Jr. Aces
Squirts team will strive to improve each and every day in an effort to
become a serious contender in
Alaska’s Squirts Tier II Division.
